Qashqai Persian Rug
This is a painting inspired by a photo of a Qashqai Persian Kilim rug. The Qashqai are an ancient tribe who live in the southern Fars region of Iran.
Their rugs, each woven by groups of women from the community, are highly symbolic and have always been my favorite style of Persian rug.
This was painstakingly painted on a 24″ wide by 36″ tall canvas over the course of six months and 135 hours. All detail was done with a toothpick; while the black, yellow, and centerpiece backgrounds were painted with a brush.
