This was my first experimentation with the new re-lacing technique. I made the design simple just in case it didn’t turn out (like many other past attempts). But when I saw how this had dried, I knew it was perfect.
A little less than 5″ around, I painted traditional henna mandalas on both sides. The shape was just meant for them. Both sides are in blue leather paint and, as with all my rattles, is finished with leather sealant to guarantee years of happy playing.
Inside the rattle is a combination of seeds, beans, rice, and some tiny rocks, and dangling from the bottom are three strands of beads. One small bell at the end creates a playful, energetic sound when shaken and will add lovely music to your altars, ceremonies, cleansings, and music circles.
